A Time for Giving: Zekelman Industries Employees Donate Christmas Gifts to Beacon Therapeutic

With the holiday season upon us, we’re taking some time to reflect on the true meaning of the holiday season. For us, it’s a time for giving.  And this year, our employees gave to a very deserving organization, Beacon Therapeutic.

Based in Chicago’s Beverly neighborhood, Beacon Therapeutic offers a range of services for underprivileged and disadvantaged children and their families, including therapeutic day schools, homeless outreach programs and clinical outpatient services.

Beacon Therapeutic is dedicated to providing homeless and at-risk children, teens and their families with the resources needed to help foster a healthy, safe and supportive home environment. Their mission, “to empower children and families by helping them discover a better future through accredited educational, mental health and social services,” is evident in every program and service they provide.

Committed to giving back, we have participated in Beacon Therapeutic’s Angel Tree program for several years, in addition their diaper drive this past summer and several other events since opening our Chicago Headquarters in 2011.

This year, more than 50 HQ employees participated in the Angel Tree that supplied gifts for 60 deserving children, thanks to the organization by Sarah Beatty. Ranging from newborns to age 10, our employees were given the name, age and gender of the child they would be playing angel to. Some of our most giving employees helped give a wonderful holiday season to two or three children!

Atlas Tube’s Toy Drive for Beacon Therapeutic

In addition to the Angel Tree at Zekelman Industries HQ, our Atlas Tube facility here in Chicago also donated gifts to Beacon Therapeutic. This year’s toy drive was spearheaded by Iriana Herrera, Atlas Tube’s HR generalist, and we are excited to say that more than 150 gifts were collected!

According to Nancy Leyden -the Inside Sales Supervisor at Atlas Tube-Chicago and original organizer of Christmas outreach efforts in previous years – this year’s toy drive had more participation from Atlas Tube employees than ever before! This resulted in a robust contribution of toys for children who would otherwise not receive any gifts on Christmas. Much of this is thanks to Iriana, who stepped up and rallied both mill workers and office personnel to give back and embrace the true meaning of the holidays.

The gifts collected at Atlas Tube will be distributed by Beacon through their homeless outreach services, and will go to their most needy families

As a company, we are proud to have such giving and thoughtful employees. ‘Tis the season for giving, and we aren’t lacking any of that around here!

Here’s to a safe, healthy and happy holiday season!
